A luxury car - this is how the Infinity QX50 can be described. A car with character, daring appearance and good driving characteristics. Although it cannot be called a completely new model.
New generation
The Infiniti QX50 is based on its predecessor, the EX model, which appeared on the automotive market back in 2007. A complete restyling of the model with a name change took place in 2013, and an updated version was presented four years later. Although the new model has not received global changes - it is made on the basis of its "younger brother". The designers of the concern left the recognizable flowing lines of Infiniti, added headlights with running lights, more chrome elements.
The body itself has become a little higher and longer. The manufacturer took into account all the shortcomings of the previous model, which "hung" between the crossover and the car. With new dimensions (218mm wheel clearance), the QX50 is much more passable, but still remains in the city car category. Although the new chassis received an all-wheel drive transmission with an electromagnetic clutch, which is connected to the front axle when slipping. Only rear-wheel drive works constantly, which gives the car more comfort at speed.
Car owners describe their feelings as follows:
“The car pushes for a dynamic ride. Accelerates smoothly, without jerking, acceleration is good. You don't feel the speed at all, so you have to be careful."
“After BMW I did not understand this car at all, although it is impossible to compare them. KuX is noisy, the engine is rather weak. We must take the version with a three-liter engine."
Specifications
The Infiniti engine is located behind the front axle (Front Midship technology), the front axle with independent suspension and two-way shock absorbers, the rear axle has a separate arrangement of shock absorbers and springs.
The QX50 is supplied to Russia with two types of engine: two and a half liters and 222 hp. (in the latest generation - 272 hp) and 3.7 liters with 330 "horses" with a CVT variator. Such powerful engines are both a plus and a minus of the car. It seems that with such data, there should be serious acceleration dynamics, but in the first version, the manufacturer claims 9.6 seconds of acceleration to 100 km / h. The second engine is more interesting in this regard - 6.4 seconds. However, fuel consumption in this mode exceeds all declared indicators:
“It consumes 18 liters in the city, if not quite trudging along. It's a lot. On average, somewhere around 12-15 liters. But if you love to drive, get ready to spend. Yes, and it’s difficult to leave the traffic light first, the engine is capricious, but then you’ll make up for everything”.
“You can only ride it around the city. He doesn't like long driving in low gear, he starts to smell burnt. The service said that the distribution clutch is very moody. It is better not to climb into the mud and snowdrifts, the ground clearance is too low. But on a good suburban road on it just fine! Dynamics and acceleration at altitude! It doesn’t give up in turns, the steering wheel is very responsive and precise”.
Unpleasant surprises
But when choosing such a car, lovers of fast driving will have an unpleasant surprise - tax. For a modest version of 222 horsepower, you will have to pay 15 thousand rubles a year. And for 333 horsepower - 50 thousand rubles. And if we add to this the cost of annual maintenance and insurance of OSAGO and CASCO (from one hundred thousand rubles), the amount comes out rather big. That is why the Infiniti QX50 is not very popular in our country. Yes, considering that its initial cost is more than two million, it has too many interesting competitors in this segment. And cars in the secondary market are not in high demand due to the increasing load on current repairs. And you will have to repair a used car.
The weak points of the "Date" include the suspension, which does not withstand the frequent load of irregularities, optics - many owners complain about too frequent interruptions in the operation of halogen lamps. Extraneous squeaks may appear in the passenger compartment of a used car. This usually comes from the wear of the rubber bands on the glass. It is recommended to change the oil in the box every 60 thousand runs. Many owners complain about interruptions in spare parts. Dealers supply consumables and spare parts only on order, and non-specialized centers try not to get involved with such a complicated machine in terms of diagnostics, which is confirmed by the reviews of motorists:
“The fog lamp has burst. The part had to wait two months. Officials have practically nothing in stock. And you still need to try to look for a Chinese analogue. The demand is very small, there is no analysis for such machines”.
“Very expensive suspension. I am glad that my wife drives this car, who does not ride off-road and does not kill the chassis so quickly. This is an ordinary urban SUV. And if you take into account that it has a rear-wheel drive, problems may arise in winter. But on the other hand, there is a very well thought-out salon, everything is at hand, conveniently."
Dreams of comfort
All QX50 owners unanimously claim that the technical shortcomings of the car are compensated by a comfortable interior. Infiniti cars belong to the Luxary class. This means that expensive materials are used in the interior trim. All configurations of the model have a leather interior. Moreover, it can be ordered in three colors - black, white (beige) and brown.
The dashboard elements will also be finished in the selected color. The panel itself is quite large and wide, the console goes down, on which the gearbox lever of the new generation is located (on models from 2017). There is a multimedia system in the center, navigation has been added to the expensive configuration. Four-zone climate control, buttons on the steering wheel, parking sensors, ergonomic seats and a safety package in this case are generally taken for granted.
Since the car is small, there is not much space in the back row, it is difficult for the three of us to fit there. Plus, the sloping roof "steals" free space. The trunk is also small, exclusively for purchases, and instead of a full-fledged spare wheel "dock". Infiniti QX50 is delivered to Russia in three trim levels, but as the sales statistics show, even the basic package provides the driver with everything necessary and there is no point in overpaying for additional "bells and whistles". The cost of the new KuX starts from two and a half million rubles and reaches four in the maximum configuration. The price increase occurred after the restyling of the model and the general rise in the price of cars.
But when you compare the QX50 with its direct competitors like the Lexus NX or BMW X3, or even the Volvo XC40, the Infiniti looks more attractive. And the point is not in the design, but in the fact that for this money it is technically more equipped and more reliable. And most importantly, it is not in the top ten of the list of the most stolen cars.
Mostly, the buyers of the QX50 are girls who appreciate the car for its small size and attractive appearance. But as a family car, it is categorically not suitable - the dimensions are modest, the "appetites" are large:
“If you want to please your beloved wife, the QX50 is the best option. Both inside and outside the car is decent and noticeable on the road. But the "boys" have nothing to do with such a machine. These are all female options. I would take a QX60 for myself, this is a real family car”.
"Toy. A good expensive toy for young people. I still want to stand out on the road and have money to invest in pleasure. On it, not to carry seedlings to the dacha, but beautiful yourself."
