Manufacturers do not recommend in vain not to delay the replacement of the coolant - long operation of the engine with the old antifreeze can lead to coking of the channels of the cooling system, failure of elements.
The first sign of poor coolant is a reddish color. A change in shade signals that the inhibitor additives have lost their activity and now the fluid turns into an aggressive medium that can support the corrosion process in relation to the metal elements of the cooling system. The manufacturer recommends completely replacing the coolant after 60,000 km or after a couple of years of operation.
Preparing and draining the coolant
Prepare in advance a container for liquid (8-10 liters) and keys for "17", "13" and "8". It is advisable to put the car on the inspection pit; if this is not possible, then the work can be performed on a car just standing on a flat horizontal area. But as a container, you will already need something like a basin, the canister in an upright position under the car will not crawl up. You need to change the antifreeze on a cooled engine.
The liquid is drained in 2 stages. First, you need to drain the liquid from the radiator. To do this, you must first remove the crankcase protection by unscrewing the 4 mounting bolts. Further in the passenger compartment, open the heater tap by turning the regulator knob to the right extreme position. Now you need to open the hood and unscrew the expansion tank cap. Then place a container under the drain hole and slowly unscrew the plug. The time for the complete flow of liquid from the VAZ2115i radiator is 10-15 minutes.
While the fluid is draining out of the radiator, in the second step, the cylinder block can be released. First locate the drain plug, it is located under the ignition module. If you see that it will be inconvenient to unscrew it, then remove the module. Place a container under the car in the desired place and unscrew the cap. The draining process will take no more than 15 minutes.
Filling with coolant
First screw the drain plugs on the radiator, cylinder block. To prevent the formation of air plugs in the cooling system, loosen the clamp of the branch pipe going to the throttle (for heating), remove the hose from the fitting. Slowly pour the antifreeze into the open expansion tank until it appears from the removed pipe.
As soon as the liquid begins to flow out of it, put the hose back, tighten the clamp. Fill the system with fluid until the level reaches the MAX mark. Now you can start the engine and warm it up. After reaching operating temperature, stop the engine, check the fluid level, top up if necessary.
