When buying a vehicle, you must make sure that the seller provides you with the correct information about the vehicle. Particular attention should be paid to the mileage of the car, since incorrect data on it can significantly affect the frequency of your calls to the car service.
Instructions
Step 1
When placing an advertisement for the sale of a car, sellers usually indicate its mileage. You, as a buyer, need to find out whether the real mileage corresponds to the figure that was named by the seller, and whether he unauthorizedly changed the meter readings. It is impossible to find out the exact number of the vehicle's mileage, but you can try to determine it visually.
Step 2
First, pay attention to the appearance of the interior, dashboard, pedals, steering wheel and body handles. When operating a car, the driver always touches these parts, therefore, by their condition, it is possible to determine the period of use of the vehicle. If they are worn out, and the odometer shows a relatively small number, they are definitely trying to slip an too old car at a high price.
Step 3
When inspecting the car, pay attention to the type of odometer. Now you can easily correct the readings of electronic odometers, as well as meters with leading cables. But odometers built into LCD screens are much more difficult to fix, since a complete flashing of the program is required here.
Step 4
Check the position of the numbers on the odometer: if it was interfered with, they will no longer be able to be symmetrically positioned in relation to each other. If you have the opportunity to diagnose a vehicle at a repair stand, be sure to use this, an inspection may reveal an interference with the odometer.
Step 5
Look under the hood of the car, there you can also find information indicating its approximate mileage. Pay attention to the timing belt, which must be changed after every hundred thousand kilometers. If the car has a new belt, and the odometer does not show a hundred thousand kilometers, the seller is clearly lying to you. If on the odometer you see numbers of 100-120 thousand kilometers, and the belt is in a terrible state, most likely, the car has traveled not 100, but 200 or more thousand kilometers.
