As most domestic motorists should be aware, cars that came off the VAZ factory conveyors require a number of significant improvements. In particular, this applies to the sound insulation of the car interior.

Noise isolation
Noise isolation

Factory insulation of VAZ cars significantly impairs driving pleasure, since it practically does not protect the interior from external street noise. This is not to say that there is no factory sound insulation at all, as such. No, it still exists, but its effectiveness is almost zero.

In order to remedy the situation, you can make the cabin soundproofing yourself. This method is applicable to work in a car of any brand that came off the assembly line of the Togliatti auto giant.

Material and tools

Before you start to fine-tune the car interior, you must have the following at your disposal:

- insulating material ("Vibroplast" is possible), approximately 14 sheets of 0, 6x0, 9 meters;

- solvent - 1 liter;

- a sharp knife, preferably a boot knife;

- putty knife;

- building hair dryer;

- screwdriver.

The process itself

Work begins with removing the trim in the passenger compartment. The roof, doors, as well as the linings present on the side surfaces of the rear seats and the rear wheel arches are freed from the trim. When removing the casing, care should be taken not to damage the clips.

After removing the trim, it is necessary to remove all the factory vibration isolation, which, according to the idea of the car designers, should have somehow protected the interior space from the effects of external noise. Since there is practically no benefit from such protection, it should be removed all without a trace. In places where the vibration isolation is especially carefully glued, it must be scraped off with a spatula or the glue must be warmed up using a construction hairdryer.

After the vibration isolation has been removed, it is necessary to thoroughly degrease those surfaces to which the soundproofing material will be glued. A solvent should be used for this procedure.

When the preparatory work is completed, you can proceed, in fact, to gluing the sound insulation. You need to start with the doors, while "Vibroplats" does not need to be economized, but on the contrary, it is necessary to glue the entire surface as carefully as possible. For pasting the front surfaces of doors, it is advisable to use solid sheets of material, for work with hard-to-reach places, "Vibroplast" should be cut into small pieces.

Soundproofing the roof of a car, as well as the surfaces of the trunk, rear seats and rear wheel arches, is done according to the same principle. The only difference is that for even and tight adhesion of the material to the rounded surface of the wheel arches, you will have to make diagonal cuts on its surface. After the sound-insulating material is glued, it is necessary to smooth it out, preheating it with a hairdryer.
