For long-term operation of the vehicle, it is necessary to select the correct transmission oil. But only experienced motorists know what kind of oil can be poured into the gearbox of their "iron horse".
Instructions
Step 1
First of all, when choosing a transmission oil, you should be guided by the recommendations of the car manufacturer specified in the operation manual or service book. Most often, manufacturers indicate the quality class of the oil and the required values of its viscosity. However, certain brands of oils may also be recommended.
Step 2
When choosing an oil, you should pay attention to which gearbox is installed on the car: mechanical or automatic. Conventional transmission oil is only suitable for manual transmissions, but for automatic transmissions, you must select a special fluid designed for automatic transmissions.
Step 3
The viscosity of the selected transmission oil should be dependent on the ambient temperature at which the vehicle is operated. The classification of oil for this parameter is divided into 3 types: summer, winter and all-season grades. Most often, car owners prefer to pour all-season oil into the gearbox, since it is most convenient when operating a car. The latter type is synthetic oil. Its density and viscosity do not change in frost or heat, which ensures a comfortable ride. Mineral oils should only be used during warmer months, as these oils thicken in freezing temperatures.
Step 4
When choosing an oil quality class for a car, it should be remembered that different transmission units require oils belonging to different operating groups. There are 5 such groups in total. For an automatic transmission, oil of group 4 is most often used, and for all-wheel drive vehicles and automatic transmissions, oil of both 4 and 5 groups can be used.
Step 5
It is worth noting that transmission oils may differ in color, which depends only on the dye added to it. This fact does not in any way affect the properties of the oil. The transparency of the transmission oil speaks much more. It should not be cloudy or contain sediment.
