There are 2 schemes for connecting an asynchronous 3-phase electric motor to a 3-phase power grid - "delta" and "star". The choice of circuit depends on the mains voltage and the rated operating voltage of the motor.

It is necessary

  • - Screwdriver,
  • - pliers.

Instructions

Step 1

Observe the electrical characteristics of the connected motor. They can be found in the passport or on a plate screwed to the body of the mechanism. It also contains the recommended connection diagrams for various supply voltages of the 3-phase network.

Step 2

Make sure the motor shaft rotates freely. To do this, rotate it with your hand. It is better to start the asynchronous electric motor for the first time without load, since it is undesirable to rotate some mechanisms in the opposite direction, so do not connect the drive coupling flanges until the end of the work on connecting the electric motor.

Step 3

Remove the cover on the motor terminal block and see how the jumpers are set. The way the jumpers are installed determines the wiring diagram for the electric motor. Jumpers connecting the 3 contacts in the second row form a star circuit. This is a widespread scheme for connecting 3-phase electric motors to a 3-phase network with a voltage of 380V. When installing jumpers that close adjacent 3 pairs of contacts, a "triangle" circuit is obtained. It is used to turn on an electric motor in a 3-phase network with a voltage of 127V.

Step 4

Select the required wiring diagram and set the jumpers in the correct order. Since widespread 3-phase networks have a voltage of 380V, use a "star" circuit for connection.

Step 5

Disconnect the circuit breaker that interrupts the motor power supply. Never work with live wires that have 3 phases - this is very dangerous.

Step 6

Connect the supply wires to the motor.

Step 7

Assemble the motor start and stop controller circuit.

Step 8

Turn on the machine and use the controller to make a test run of the electric motor.

Step 9

If the motor spins in the opposite direction, disconnect the circuit and swap any 2 wires. This will change the direction of rotation.
