Instructions

Step 1

Adjust the speed of the permanent magnet collector motor on the stator by changing the voltage on the rotor windings. The dependence of the speed of such an engine on voltage is close to linear.

Step 2

Adjust the speed of an electronically controlled motor with feedback (for example, used in a computer fan) in the same way, but remember that the dependence of the speed on the voltage will be somewhat less linear. Such motors do not allow polarity reversal.

Step 3

To change the number of revolutions of a commutator motor with independent excitation, keeping the voltage on the stator winding constant, change the voltage on the rotor windings.

Step 4

Use a dedicated thyristor regulator to control the speed of a series-excited motor supplied from the AC mains. Many power tools are equipped with one. Do not use governors not specifically designed for these motors.

Step 5

To change the speed of the synchronous motor, proportionally change the frequency of its supply voltage. When the frequency decreases, simultaneously reduce the voltage so that the current through the motor windings does not increase. If the voltage is not reduced, the current may increase with decreasing frequency due to a decrease in the inductive resistance of the windings. This mode is dangerous for the engine.

Step 6

Use the same method to reduce the speed of the induction motor. If this is not possible (for example, in the absence of a three-phase inverter), simply reduce the voltage without changing the frequency. If the motor is single-phase, it is convenient to use LATR for this. Never use thyristor controllers in conjunction with any electric motors that are not collector motors.
