It is very convenient to have an ATV on the farm, it has the advantages of both a motorcycle and a car at the same time. If you have an old but reliable Ural motorcycle and some spare parts from Zhiguli, as well as the necessary tools and a warm garage, you can make an ATV yourself.

It is necessary

  • - bridge, shock absorbers, tie rods, brakes, wheels and other parts from a VAZ car;

  • - welding machine;
  • - angle grinder (grinder);
  • - table with a vice;
  • - compressor for painting;
  • - a set of locksmith tools;
  • - jigsaw and other tools;
  • - sheet and profile rolling.

Instructions

Step 1

Disassemble the bike and redesign the frame - move the vertical seatpost tubes 40mm back. Weld the Zhiguli car bridge to the Ural pendulum and weld it to the frame. Cut the lower fork as well as the rear posts just behind the seatpost tubes.

Step 2

Make struts from the strut tubes, which are then welded next to the suspension bushings to the seat posts. To strengthen the structure, cover the resulting triangles with steel plate kerchiefs.

Step 3

Weld 30mm thin-walled tubing to the front frame structure for attaching the front suspension, rear rack and front bumper. Boil the front rack for a homemade ATV from a pipe with a diameter of 20 mm.

Step 4

Shorten the rear axle from the Zhiguli to ensure compactness and increase maneuverability by narrowing the turning radius. To do this, cut off the bracket and the spring support cup, pull out the end flange from the socket. Shorten the "stocking" and insert the flange back, fasten with welding. Shorten the axle shaft to the same length by cutting off the wheel flange. Drill an axial hole in it and grind the axle shaft under it. Then insert the rod into the flange and drill a blind hole at their joint, so that there will be half a hole in each part. Hammer a wire key into it and weld the resulting joint in a circle.

Step 5

Make the propeller shaft yourself from the semiaxes of the Oka car using the SHRUS, check that it fits the main gear of the drive axle and at the same time to the motorcycle transmission.

Step 6

Make a front suspension out of square pipes 25x25x2 mm, take the steering knuckles from the Zhiguli. Secure the lower ends of the levers to the ball joints of the knuckles, and the upper ends to the lugs on the subframe.

Step 7

Use the brakes from "Zhiguli", removing the vacuum booster and the parking brake. It is best to leave the drive from the usual motorcycle pedal.

Step 8

Equip the engine with forced air cooling from the VAZ 2108 car. Also take the wheels from the Zhiguli, equipping them with tires with an all-terrain tread.

Step 9

Take the steering wheel itself from the motorcycle, but use the bipod, column, rods to the levers, wheel fists from the VAZ. Install headlights, brake light, direction indicators. Don't forget to equip the ATV with large mudguards.
