A trike is a three-wheeled vehicle made from the front of a motorcycle and the back of a car. Differs in high comfort, bright appearance, stability on the road. Self-construction of a trike depends entirely on the imagination and capabilities of the builder. However, it will be more difficult to register it than to build it.

Instructions

Step 1

It is necessary to decide on the layout of the trike. If the engine is planned to be installed at the rear, it is best to choose the ZAZ-968 or Volkswagen Kafer engine as the power unit. For a front-engine layout, an engine from the Urals or the Dnieper is recommended. These are classic solutions. In fact, you can choose any engine along with the gearbox that matches it.

Step 2

The rear axle of the trike must be securely attached to the frame and at the same time be movable during the suspension travel. Of the domestic components, the bridge from the classic Moskvich is often chosen, and the rear suspension is from the VAZ-2101. "Moskvichevsky" bridge has a suitable gear ratio of 4, 3 and the wheels for it are suitable from Toyota. Consequently, the wheels can be installed from R13 to R17, and on them - wide tires from some kind of SUV.

Step 3

The rear of the original motorcycle is trimmed and the frame is welded on. It is made from a slab in the front and thick-walled pipes with a diameter of at least 20 mm. Before you cook the frame, make a mock-up: in the picture or in your imagination, the frame may look completely different from the real one. The mockup will help you decide on the final frame configuration. Don't forget to reinforce the frame with gussets.

Step 4

Weld the suspension attachment points to the rear axle and frame. Shock absorbers from passenger cars will not work: on a light trike, the suspension will be terribly stiff. Use shock absorbers from heavy motorcycles (the same Ural or Dnieper).

Step 5

When installing the propeller shaft, the following arrangement is preferable: the clutch should be with a damper disc, the crosspiece is closer to the gearbox, the CV joint at the rear axle gearbox.

Step 6

The rear brakes are better than the automotive type, hydraulically actuated. The front fork can be taken from the Urals or the Dnieper, significantly strengthening it. For the best appearance of the front fork, make your own. Use motorcycle shock absorbers. Take the front wheel from an imported motorcycle.

Step 7

Considering that motorcyclists like to install several main, auxiliary and fog lights on trikes, as well as a lot of additional lighting, a high-class stereo system, etc., it is better to choose a generator as powerful as possible. 40-50 Amperes is the optimal value.

Step 8

The fuel tank will have to be converted from a motorcycle one by cutting in half and welding with inserts, or better - with chrome pads. Alternatively, you can install the dashboard and electronics in a standard tank, and install another tank for fuel, for example, behind the passenger seat.

Step 9

Take care of the exterior. Install linings, fairings, housings, cladding, footpegs - it all depends on the intended appearance of the trike. With a good generator power, you can think about a powerful audio system.
