A karakat (all-terrain vehicle, snowmobile, etc.) was developed to move through the most difficult snow-covered areas of Russia. The first mention of it was in the magazine "Modelist Konstruktor" and was called the apparatus "Harp" by designer V. Laukhin. It is a very simple and reliable vehicle with only six parts: engine, frame, rear axle, wheels plus snow ski, steering rod and handlebars. For the first time, low-pressure chambers were used in it, and not the usual pneumatics with a protector.

It is necessary

  • - steel pipe 25x25x1 mm;
  • - steel pipe 32x2 mm;
  • - bronze bushings;
  • - steel pipe 40x25x1 mm;
  • - T-200 engine;
  • - motorcycle fuel tank for 20 liters;
  • - steel plate 3 mm thick;
  • - steel strip 3 mm thick;
  • - car axle shafts (2 pcs.);
  • - car differential;
  • - cameras from the K-700 trailer;
  • - plywood (10 mm);
  • - aluminum cradles;
  • - conveyor belt (8 mm);
  • - bearing housings for axle shafts;
  • - band brake;
  • - steel bar;
  • - steel tube for the steering wheel;
  • - control handles;
  • - bolts 10 and 12 mm;
  • - seat.

Instructions

Step 1

Make the frame from 25 x 25 mm square steel tubes with a wall thickness of 1 mm. Connect the upper and lower side members with a strut, steering sleeve and strut.

Step 2

Make the steering bushing out of steel tube with a diameter of 32 mm and a wall thickness of 2 mm. Place the clips on its ends, into which press the plain bearings - bronze bushings.

Step 3

Weld a strut made from a piece of 25 x 25 mm square pipe to the first brace on the lower side members and where the upper side members are connected to the longitudinal tube. Reinforce the knot with two metal gussets, as it experiences the biggest shock loads.

Step 4

Take a 40 x 25 mm rectangular pipe. Weld it to the cross tube on the upper frame and to the second brace located on the lower side members.

Step 5

Make a plate and an angle for mounting the engine on the rack and brace. Take the channel, make a groove in it for the adjusting bolts and place it on a 3 mm thick steel plate, which you previously welded to the lower side members.

Step 6

Use a 20 liter fuel tank. Install it on the longitudinal tube.

Step 7

Make the rear axle frame out of 25 x 25 mm steel tubing. First weld the right and left pyramids. Then connect them at the bottom with a 3 mm steel strip and at the top with 25 x 25 mm rectangular pipes.

Step 8

Weld on the top of the pyramids bearing housings for automotive semi-axles, weld steel strips, 3 mm thick, to the bases. Install the car differential between them, which needs to be finalized - install the driven gear, which is connected to the drive chain on the engine (step 15, 9). Also put on a band brake and a homemade shroud.

Step 9

Connect the frame and rear axle in four places - two on the top and two on the bottom. In addition, tighten them with three 12-bolt bolts - one frame and the first axle joint, the rest of the bushings and side members.

Step 10

Make caracal wheels from cameras from the K-700 tractor trailer and 10 mm plywood. The axle is made of steel, the lodgments are made of aluminum. The cameras should be secured with 8 mm thick rubber-fabric belts made of a conveyor belt.

Step 11

Make the diameter of the outer discs slightly larger than the inner discs, this will give the driver a chance to feel confident when driving on slopes. Use five bolts 10 to secure the wheels to the axle shafts.

Step 12

Make a bar from a steel bar. It must have room for the handlebar, journal for installing journal bearings, thrust washer and axle at the end.

Step 13

Make a handlebar from a steel tube. Weld in the center at a 30 degree angle a bushing with two holes: a through hole for the locking pin and a blind hole for the top of the steering rod. Install the scooter control handles on it.

Step 14

Place the seat over the engine on the upper side members.
