The integrity of the boot protects the grease necessary for the long-term operation of the rubbing surfaces of the parts, from the ingress of various impurities into it in the form of dust, sand, dirt and water. Thus, the motor resource of a certain unit or mechanism of a car depends on the timeliness of detecting a rupture in the boot and its subsequent replacement with a new one.

It is necessary

  • - 19 mm spanner,
  • - puller for steering rods,
  • - mandrel,
  • - new boot.

Instructions

Step 1

If, during a control examination of the car, the motorist found scuffs, cracks or a rupture of the anther covering the tip of the steering rod, then the repair should not be postponed "on the back burner." Indeed, to replace it, you do not need a lift or a viewing hole. And you just need to drive into the garage, remove the old one and put on a new boot.

Step 2

Having unscrewed the wheel with the steering wheel so that the tip of the tie rod is clearly visible and accessible, use a 19 mm wrench to unscrew the nut of its fastening to the pivot pin.

Step 3

Then, using a puller, the tip is squeezed out of its original place.

Step 4

Taking the steering rod slightly to the side, the old boot is dismantled from the tip, after which all old grease is removed from the hinge, and it is washed in kerosene or diesel fuel.

Step 5

After wiping the tip of the tie rod after flushing, it is abundantly lubricated with Litol-24 grease, and a new boot is put on top of it, which, with the help of a mandrel, is deposited on the hinge seat.

Step 6

After attaching the steering rod to the trunnion and tightening the nut on the tip finger, you can go on the road with a light heart.
