The boot, or dust cover, has an important function - it prevents the grease from washing out and protects the unit from dust and dirt. When the boot ruptures, sand gets into the protected unit, and it quickly breaks down. Therefore, it is very important to detect and replace torn anthers in time.

Replacing the boot is complicated by the fact that to replace it, you have to completely disassemble the entire assembly. The boot itself is inexpensive, but replacing it can cost a lot. Timely detection of torn anthers is also difficult, due to their location under the bottom of the car.

A particular danger is the rupture of the boot on the CV joint, since the sand falling from the road very quickly destroys the CV joint and the car can stop at the most inopportune moment. If traces of grease appear on the boot, then it is torn and must be replaced.

Preparatory work

To replace the dust cover on the CV joint, you will have to completely remove the drive from the car. For work, you need a 17 wrench, a 30 socket for unscrewing the hub nut, a mounting blade, a container for draining the oil from the gearbox.

Before starting work, place the VAZ - 2109 car on a level surface, place stops under the rear wheels and drain the oil from the gearbox. Then, with the car standing on the ground, loosen and loosen the hub nut and wheel bolts, on the drive of which you will change the boot. After that, you can raise the car with a jack, substitute an emphasis under it and remove the wheel.

Replacing the boot

Unscrew the hub nut completely and remove the washer. Then remove the two bolts securing the steering knuckle to the ball joint. Remove the hub from the drive splines and move aside together with the rack.

Next, press the inner drive joint out of the gearbox using a spudger. If it becomes necessary to remove both drives, then before removing the second, insert the old inner hinge into the gearbox, in place of the removed drive.

Clamp the drive shaft in a vise. Remove the clamps from the torn boot and cut off the boot with a knife. Then, resting the spatula against the hinge yoke, gently knock the hinge off the shaft with a hammer.

Check the condition of the hinge. If sand has already gotten into it, thoroughly flush the hinge with gasoline. After flushing, fill the hinge with graphite grease SHRUS - 4. Make sure that dirt does not get into the hinge again.

Secure the new boot to the drive shaft with a clamp and turn it inside out. Install the hinge in place by light hammer blows, through the wooden spacer on the shank of the hinge.

Place the boot on the hinge. Use a screwdriver to squeeze the edge of the boot so that the air evens out the boot and secure the boot with clamps. Then install the drive with a new dust cover on the vehicle. Then reinstall the rest of the parts in reverse order.
