The boot is a rubber-technical product that protects the penetration of dust, dirt and moisture to the surfaces of rubbing parts. But this statement is true only as long as the anther retains its integrity, and in cases where cracks or gaps are found in it, it should be replaced as soon as possible, without putting it on the back burner.

Step 1

Anthers are installed in different places of the car, including: the clutch fork on the gearbox, steering rods and their tips, ball joints, constant velocity joints ("grenades") and others.

Step 2

The most difficult, according to most motorists, is to replace the boot on the CV joint of a front-wheel drive car. Therefore, we will dwell in more detail on this particular repair option.

Step 3

Suppose that the car is already installed on a level surface, the parking brake is tightened to the end, wheel chocks are placed under the rear wheels, and the side of the car requiring repair is posted and installed on a reliable support. To facilitate the procedure for replacing the boot - remove the front wheel.

Step 4

Next, use a hub wrench to unscrew the wheel bearing retaining nut. Having unscrewed it, remove the thrust washer from under the nut.

Step 5

Using a 19 mm wrench, unscrew the nut that secures the tie rod end to the pivot pin, and using a puller, the tie rod is disconnected from the specified unit.

Step 6

After disconnecting the lower ball joint from the strut, it is pulled towards itself until the outer hinge is disengaged from the hub.

Step 7

The freed drive shaft is removed from the gearbox and placed on a workbench, on which the anthers are subsequently replaced.

Step 8

After dismantling two clamps for fastening the old boot, the constant velocity joint is removed from the drive shaft and thoroughly washed in kerosene or diesel fuel. Then fresh grease is put into it, and a new boot with a narrow side is put on the drive shaft and turned out, after which the CV joint joins the shaft and the wide side of the boot is put on it.

Step 9

Having tightened the clamps on the new boot, further assembly of the previously disassembled parts is carried out in the reverse order.
