In the electric car world, rumors of a possible collaboration between Volkswagen and Ford on electric cars have intensified.
Rumors of an electric partnership between Volkswagen and Ford have long gone beyond speculation. Therefore, Volkswagen CEO Herbert Diess said the two manufacturers “have set the direction for a potential collaboration” (other than the commercial vehicle partnership).
The speculation is about a new MEB platform that could be used in Ford's electric vehicles, but it would be strange if Ford chose this option, since the use of the MEB platform would indicate that Ford does not fully support the idea of electric vehicles.
Such a partnership is believed to depend on Ford's policies and forecasts for the future of the electric vehicle. If Ford executives don't expect electric cars to play a critical role, then the company could leverage VW technology and launch several mid-range models to keep costs down.
But if Ford management believes in the future of electric vehicles, it will probably be ready to develop its own technology.
