AvtoVAZ is a large Russian automobile company that has been the largest manufacturer of passenger cars for many decades.
AvtoVAZ is one of the largest Russian automobile companies, founded in 1966 by decree of the Central Committee of the CPSU in the city of Togliatti.
In the early 60s, a real auto boom took place in highly developed European countries. The number of cars produced increased annually. And the USSR began work in this direction in the late 50s, planning to create a truly "people's car". It was supposed to be "Zaporozhets". And it became clear that more radical measures were needed: a new car plant that could produce more than half a million units of production per year, satisfying the demand of the population for a personal vehicle. The preparation of the technical project was entrusted to the engineers of the Fiat plant (in the framework of international cooperation).
After the collapse of the USSR during the "sad" 90s - early 2000s, more than 500 people died for the right to manage the VAZ plant (among them not only crime bosses, but also law enforcement officers, journalists).
For about two years (2002-2004) "VAZ" carried out its own lottery, in which the jackpot was the car "Zhiguli". The lottery was very successful
Since 2007, the French concern Renault has been cooperating with the VAZ company, which produces its cars on the basis of the Russian plant.
Also, on the basis of the Russian plant, cars of the Nissan and Datsun brands are produced.
