However, given that it is not at all difficult to change the odometer readings, even on imported cars, when buying, determining the real mileage of a car becomes a real problem. By following these steps, you can at least roughly find out how many kilometers this car has traveled.

Multiply the average mileage of the car, for example 25,000 - 30,000 km per year, by the age of the car, and you get the approximate total mileage. If you suspect that the owner of this car worked in a taxi service, then multiply by 40 - 50 thousand.

Examine the tires. If the wear is small with a large speedometer reading, then feel free to conclude that they were changed. Estimate the approximate mileage on one set (taking into account the car model and driving style) and compare it with the declared number of kilometers.

Examine the brake discs, after 30,000 km, a noticeable groove appears, which increases over time. The wear rate of brake discs varies depending on the box (if the box is automatic, then the discs wear out faster), on the brand of the car, on the quality of the discs. If the wheels are new, and the car as a whole does not look new, conclude that the mileage is already high enough.

Explore the space under the hood, as this is where the sticker is stuck stating that the timing belt has changed. The number 100,000 on the sticker means that this car has already passed the milestone of 100 thousand km. If at the same time the speedometer shows 90 or 80 thousand, you can safely accuse the seller of cheating. Look under the timing belt cover and assess its condition, estimate the correspondence of the degree of wear of the belt to the speedometer readings.
