Fuel consumption indicated in technical documents for a car often does not coincide with real figures. This happens for many reasons, including depending on the driving character of a particular driver, the type of terrain, weather conditions, etc. Therefore, it is better to determine the gas consumption yourself in order to plan your expenses.

Step 1
Tests at factories that produce cars are carried out in various conditions. Testers take into account the material of the road surface, the type of terrain, the level of congestion of the car, the temperature regime, etc. However, these experiments are still carried out under ideal conditions, unlike real life. In addition, the quality of the fuel is of great importance.
Step 2
To determine the consumption of gas yourself, you need to calculate the amount of fuel that your car needs to travel 100 km. To do this, it is enough to perform a few simple steps.

Go to a gas station where the quality of the fuel seems acceptable to you. Fill a full tank of gasoline, and also ask the station worker to fill a 15-20 liter canister. The canister should be marked with a capacity scale, preferably every 100-200 ml, so that your calculations are more accurate.
Step 4
Mark the mileage of your car and drive in the area where you are most often, for example, in the city. It will be ideal if you drive 100 km. Stop and pour gasoline from the canister into the tank up to the very neck. Then, by the marked divisions, determine how much fuel you needed for this.
Step 5
Divide the resulting number of liters by the number of kilometers traveled, and you will find the gas mileage of your car. There is another popular way. It is less accurate, but more convenient.
Step 6
Observe the fuel gauge readings. As soon as the red light starts blinking, go to the gas station. You must be close to it, otherwise you risk stalling in the middle of the road. Fill up a full tank, record your mileage, and go about your business.
Step 7
As soon as the red light flashes again, mark the new run. Subtract the previously noted value from this value. Divide the tank volume of your vehicle by the distance traveled. The method gives only an approximate estimate, since during the appearance of the red signal of the end of fuel in the tank, as a rule, some amount remains. However, its capacity in modern cars lasts for a long time, which means that the distance traveled will be quite large. Therefore, the error will be quite small.

Most urban people love to travel out of town, especially on weekends and holidays. Therefore, it is possible to calculate the consumption of vehicle fuel for two cases: the conditions of urban roads, including endless braking at traffic lights, and also off-road and grass travel.
