Many motorists have encountered the need to tow a car. But most of them ignore the rules and do not think about safety. And the consequences can be different: from a fine to an accident. Therefore, it is necessary to consider the possible options for towing and their rules.
Towing with soft hitch
This method is more suitable for transporting cars, as they are lightweight. The hitching of vehicles is carried out using a cable. It is usually soft, made of tough polymers. Upon purchase, this transportation tool is included in the prefabricated vehicle package. You will also need carabiners and holders.
Since this type of towing is most often used, therefore there are more rules for its implementation:
- The vehicle to be transported must have a driver.
- With such towing, the gap between the leading and driven cars should be within the range of 4 to 6 meters.
- A prerequisite is the presence of reflective elements on the surface of the cable.
- Transportation of passengers in the back of an emergency vehicle is prohibited.
- With a faulty control system and braking system, towing an emergency car is prohibited.
Rigid towing
This type of transportation is not so common due to the fact that for towing in this way it is necessary to use a rigidly fixed and massive special coupling device instead of a cable. It is usually made of metal.
This hitch comes in different shapes and depends on which vehicle is being towed. If it is a large vehicle, the hitch has several attachment points. This will reduce the take-off in the trajectory of the towed car. This type of coupling is used when transporting trucks, buses and special equipment.
:
- The towed vehicle must be driven by a person, with the exception of the case in which the emergency vehicle completely follows the path of the leading vehicle.
- In this case, the distance between the towing vehicle and the emergency vehicle must be within 4 meters.
- Passengers should not be in a faulty vehicle.
- Transportation is prohibited in the event of a breakdown in the steering and braking systems, unless the lead vehicle weighs 2 times more than the vehicle being towed.
Towing by local loading
Such towing is the most difficult of all and requires the use of special equipment. The driver must have some experience in driving such vehicles. Such transportation is used to transport vehicles that have no mileage. In this way, faulty trucks can be delivered. Typically, such transportation refers to the transportation of bulky goods.
:
- They prohibit the transportation of passengers in an emergency car.
- The towed emergency vehicle must have brakes working.
Towing a car is a very demanding process and requires drivers to concentrate as much as possible on the road on which other cars are located.
