The operation of a car engine can be considered normal when it reaches its nominal temperature. But in the cold, it takes a lot of time and fuel to warm it up. To warm up faster and not dissipate heat into the environment, the engine must be insulated.

Necessary

  • - polypropylene;
  • - insulation;
  • - fireproof tarpaulin;
  • - scissors;
  • - mineral wool or fiberglass.

Instructions

Step 1

Purchase special engine coverings. But they are not suitable for every car, have a high price and do not always cope with the task correctly, especially in severe frosts. Therefore, it is better to make the insulation yourself.

Step 2

Take a piece of polypropylene with dimensions of 1.5x1.5 m. Choose a material that is covered with foil on one side so that the heat radiation is better reflected. Cover the engine with this piece with the foil down, close the hood, and cut off any excess pieces with scissors. This will keep the engine warm well, it will cool down more slowly and gain temperature faster.

Step 3

Improve the engine insulation by gluing a heat insulator to the inside of the hood. To do this, purchase insulation and polypropylene foam. The dimensions of the material should be approximately the same as the dimensions of the bonnet. Place a large piece of paper on the inside of the hood and cut it so that it fits snugly where the insulation can be glued. The places where the supporting structures of the hood pass are not pasted over.

Step 4

Cut out the polypropylene and insulation according to the pattern obtained. Stick the insulation on the inside of the hood, and then the foam with the foil down. Carefully press these materials to the surface during gluing, otherwise they will fall off from temperature changes.

Step 5

Insulate the compartment from the bottom if severe frosts begin. To do this, fasten the fire-resistant tarpaulin on the top of the radiator with special clamps. Release the fabric so that it hangs down under the engine compartment.

Step 6

Wrap elements of the exhaust system that will touch the tarpaulin with fiberglass or mineral wool. Pull the tarp tight over the underbody guard and secure with cable ties at the end of the engine compartment. The size of the tarpaulin and the diameter of the clamps are selected individually for each vehicle.
