The main causes of brake failure

Malfunction of brakes on a scooter can occur for the following reasons: wear of the brake pads, wear of the brake disc, breakage in the brake cylinder, lack of brake fluid, deformation of the brake cable.

Wear of brake pads and disc

On modern scooter models, there are two brakes at once. These are disc brakes and pads. The use of pads is an older method of braking inherent in domestic motorcycles. The use of such a mechanism reduces the cost of the final cost of the scooter itself, in order to make it more budgetary.

The pads are mainly mounted on the rear wheels, and the disc, in turn, on the front. This arrangement is due to the fact that disc brakes are equipped with an anti-lock braking system or simply ABS, which does not allow the wheel to stall, thereby avoiding unwanted accidents. Brake pads and disc are consumables. When worn out, they cannot be restored, and you will have to buy them in a store.

Breakage of the brake cylinder

The brake cylinder is usually located on the steering wheel of the vehicle. The cylinder has a side peephole. It allows you to visually monitor the brake fluid level. Its working principle is very simple. It is called a cylinder because inside it creates pressure, a compression is formed, which pushes the brake fluid out of the cylinder and directs it to the brake disc. As a result, a stop occurs. Violation of this mechanism leads to failure of the braking process.

To resume it, replace the cylinder with a new one. The hose that carries the brake fluid may also burst. The difficulty to see this immediately arises due to the fact that it is hidden under the skin of the scooter. Lack of brake fluid and cable deformation

Such an action will lead to both brake failure and ABS breakdown. To fill in the fluid, unscrew the upper cylinder cover, it is mainly held by two screws, and add the brake fluid to the level.

The brake cable connects the brake lever on the handlebars of the scooter and the rear pads. When you press the handle, the cable pulls and turns the spacer in the wheel, installed between the pads. The pads expand and friction occurs between them and the wheel. The scooter slows down. The brake cable is adjustable. The constant friction will gradually wear out the pads, but while they can still be used, tighten the brake cable.
