Overhaul is an irreversible process that a motorist faces after the engine of his car has worked out its intended resource. In fact, this resource depends on the wear rate of the engine mechanism parts and is: for domestic cars - up to 150 thousand kilometers, for foreign cars - up to 300 thousand kilometers.
A car engine, like any other mechanism, cannot last forever. However, every car owner should understand that only due to the correct operation and timely maintenance of the car, it is possible to postpone the overhaul of the engine.
Causes of premature wear of parts
In order for the car engine to please as long as possible with its proper operation, it is first of all necessary to take care of the timely replacement of the oil and oil filter. Failure to comply with these procedures in due time can cause a significant deterioration in the quality of the engine oil, which entails the formation of unwanted deposits on the engine parts and in the lubrication system.
During the operation of the car, it is necessary to monitor the health of the air and fuel filters, as well as the tightness of all connections of the intake system. Abrasive particles (dust) can enter the engine through possible gaps in these joints, which leads to wear of the piston rings and cylinders.
The engine is a complex mechanism, all its malfunctions should be eliminated in time and correct adjustments should be made. For example, if the camshaft "knocks", then small metal particles will probably get into the engine lubrication system, and if inappropriate spark plugs are used during operation, this can lead to the destruction of pistons and combustion chambers. To prevent the cylinder head from deforming, you need to monitor the health of the cooling system.
What you need to pay attention to when overhauling an engine
Engine overhaul is a set of operations that must be performed by service station specialists. This is a rather lengthy and complex process, which includes:
- dismantling the engine, cleaning it, disassembling and washing parts;
- determination of the degree of wear (deformation) of parts;
- repair of the cylinder block;
- repair of the crankshaft;
- repair of the cylinder head;
- engine assembly;
- cold run-in and adjustment.
If possible, it is better to entrust the purchase of parts that will be required for the overhaul of the engine to the workshop specialists. The duration of the overhaul of the engine depends on the complexity of the work performed and can range from three days to two weeks.
