Fuel pump problems can start at any time. On carburetor motors, pumps are afraid of overheating, but a wet rag saves at first. And on injection engines, the electric motor can simply burn out, so only replacing the unit will help.
Necessary
- - Phillips and flat screwdriver;
- - spanner 13 cap or open-end;
- - socket wrench for 7.
Instructions
Step 1
Pay attention to what kind of power system the VAZ-2109 has. If a carburetor is installed, the fuel pump is located in the engine compartment. Finding it is quite simple, you just need to look at the ignition distributor. The fuel pump is located behind the distributor. It is attached to the engine with two nuts with spring washers installed underneath. On the right side of the pump there is an inlet pipe, a hose from the gas tank is attached to it. A fuel filter is installed in the rupture of this hose. On the left side of the pump is the outlet pipe from which the hose goes to the carburetor.
Step 2
Loosen the clamps that secure the hoses to the fuel pump pipes. Pull these hoses together with your hands or pliers. Using a 13 wrench, unscrew the two nuts securing the pump to the engine. That's it, the fuel pump can now be removed, just do not lose the spring washers, they will come in handy during installation. Now pay attention to the protrusion of the stem. It should protrude by 1 millimeter, a deviation of this value by 0.3 mm in any direction is allowed. The protrusion of the stem is regulated by gaskets. Only after selecting the gaskets, you can put a new gas pump, secure it with two nuts and put on the fuel hoses. This completes the repair.
Step 3
Raise the rear seat by pulling on the strap if the vehicle has fuel injection. Before that, it is advisable to remove the negative terminal from the battery. Soundproofing is installed under the seat; closer to the right door, it has a rectangular cutout. Lift up the soundproofing, underneath you will see a plastic cover. It is attached to the body with two self-tapping screws. Unscrew these screws and remove the cover. Here it is, the coveted fuel pump. Disconnect the fuel hoses from the two pipes coming from the tank. You also need to disconnect all wires going to the node.
Step 4
Get rid of dust and dirt that may be on the surface of the tank. When the pump is dismantled, all this dirt will fall into the tank, which will affect the operation of the engine, and the filters will clog faster. Now use a 7 socket wrench to unscrew the nuts that secure the pump housing to the tank. Do not lose the spring washers, they are very small, so they can easily get into the gas tank. When you unscrew all the nuts, you need to remove the pump assembly with the fuel level sensor. Replace it on the removed unit, at the same time assess the condition of the level sensor. If it is severely damaged, it is best to replace it. The fuel pump is installed in the reverse order.
