The reason for checking the operation of the turbocharger may be a drop in thrust or an extraneous whistle emitted by the turbine. Experienced drivers have their own professional signs for checking the unit, but it is still better to use special service devices.

Step 1
In the conditions of a service center, a turbine malfunction is detected by connecting the scanner to a special connector on the car. In most cases, the reason for turning off the turbocharging is the charge air pressure sensor, or the turbine itself, which has exhausted its resource. To determine the pressure of the air supplied during the operation of the turbine, connect a special device with a pressure gauge to its outlet. The readings will clearly indicate whether the turbine needs replacement or partial repair.
Step 2
Another sign of a turbine malfunction may be the emission of blue smoke from the exhaust of a running warm engine during acceleration, as well as its disappearance at constant rpm. The reason for this is the combustion of oil that enters the engine cylinders due to leaks in the turbocharger.
Step 3
Black smoke, as a rule, is formed during the combustion of a rich mixture due to air leaks in the injection lines, which also indicates malfunctions in the turbocharger control system (TCR).
Step 4
On the contrary, white exhaust gases are the result of a clogged TKR oil drain line. With an increased oil consumption (0.2 - 1.0 liters per thousand kilometers) and traces of its leakage on the turbine itself and the joints of the air duct pipes, the reason is most likely the contamination of the air channel or oil drain line.
Step 5
It is also possible that coking of the turbocharger axle housing has occurred. The reason for the deterioration of the dynamics of acceleration of the car may be insufficient air supply from the faulty TKR.
Step 6
If abnormal noise or whistling occurs during engine operation, the cause should be sought in an air leak at the junction of the compressor outlet and the engine. The characteristic shearing during operation, cracks and deformations on the turbine housing will remind you of a serious breakdown of the TKR and its imminent failure.
