In order to increase the power of the engine, automobile manufacturers are equipping engines with turbines that work like a turbocharger or a turbocharger. Failure of the specified unit leads to a sharp decrease in the dynamics of the car, which makes its further operation uncomfortable.

How to check the operation of the turbine

Necessary

  • - electronic scanner.
  • - special pressure gauge.

Instructions

Step 1

For the functioning of all systems of modern engines, responsibility is assigned to the electronic control unit, which is located in the passenger compartment, behind the front panel.

Step 2

Signals from various sensors enter the specified block, and its program, based on the data received, corrects the operation of the systems. The signal about the operation of the turbine to the ECU comes from the air pressure sensor in the intake manifold, which is connected to the manifold with a rubber tube. Pay special attention to this factor, we will talk about this in more detail a little later.

Step 3

Checking the performance of the turbine is reduced to conducting research on the diagnostic equipment of a specialized auto center. For this purpose, an electronic scanner cable is connected to the corresponding connector of the car, which, after starting the engine, will give information about the functioning of all engine systems. In those cases when the scanner reports a turbine malfunction, you should not lose optimism - this is far from a "verdict".

Step 4

As practice has shown, the failure of the turbine in operation in most cases occurs due to the leakage of the connection of the air pressure sensor tube with the intake manifold. Inspect the tube carefully and if you find scuffs or cracks on it, replace it.

Step 5

In addition, a clogged hole in the intake manifold, only one millimeter in diameter, through which air enters the pressure sensor, can shut down the turbine. Clean it up.

Step 6

To confirm or disprove the readings of the scanner completely, a tube is disconnected from the air pressure sensor and a special pressure gauge is connected to it. The ground cable is removed from the battery for a few minutes (we reset the ECU data), and after connecting it, the engine starts and the air pressure is checked on the pressure gauge, equal to 0.6 - 0.8 atm. If pressure is present, the turbine is operational. Otherwise, it is subject to replacement or refurbishment.
