With the onset of the winter period, many motorists are faced with the problem of how to get their four-wheeled friend. In order to resolve an unpleasant situation quickly and efficiently, it is necessary to have a clear and structured algorithm of actions even before it occurs.
Instructions
Step 1
In order not to experience problems with starting the car engine during the winter period, prepare it in advance. Change the engine oil to a less viscous (preferably synthetic or semi-synthetic). It is also necessary to replace the spark plugs or clean them with fine sandpaper. Follow the weather forecast. If weather forecasters promise severe frosts, remove the battery while the car is parked overnight. If your battery is more than three years old, it is better to replace it with a new one.
Step 2
Remember that in severe frosts, before starting the engine, you must turn on the low beam for a few minutes, then the high beam. It is also advisable to sequentially turn on the rest of the electrics available in the car. Such actions will "invigorate" the battery and prepare it to generate the required current to start the engine. Do not hold the key in the ignition switch when starting the engine. The correct tactic when planting a car in cold weather is to make several short attempts for five to ten seconds than one long one (it will also be final; then the battery will run out completely). If not from the first, then from the second or third time, the engine should start.
Step 3
If the battery, despite all the efforts made, is discharged, and the car cannot be started using the standard system, then outside help will be required. Light your car using the battery in the other vehicle. To do this, find a serviceable donor car, which needs to be fitted “hood into hood” to yours. Connect the wires between the batteries of the started and your car. Turn the ignition key on your car. The engine will start from a "foreign" battery. After your car starts up, in no case "shut down" it. To fully restore the battery (it must be charged from the generator), you need to drive from 30 to 50 km.
