Driver safety on the road does not depend only on skill and luck. The vehicle's passive safety system, which includes belts and airbags, is designed to protect the driver and passengers from accidental injuries and acts to anticipate an emergency.
Instructions
Step 1
Airbags were first used on American aircraft in the 1940s. A little later, they were transferred and adapted for the car. Over the years, the pillows have been modified, their operating principle and the sensitivity of the sensors have changed. The airbag operates from a module to which shock sensors transmit signals. From an impact of a certain force, the airbag fires, thereby protecting the head and body of the passenger from a frontal impact on the steering wheel and metal parts of the car interior. The pillow itself unfolds, instantly filling with gas.
Step 2
The cushions are installed in the steering column, on the front of the dashboard on the front passenger side, in the A-pillars, and on the side of the seats. Some airbags can be disabled. For example, if you are carrying a child in the front seat in a car seat. If an older child is sitting in front, he should also sit in the car seat, be fastened and the chair pushed back as far as possible.
Step 3
Airbags provide maximum protection in the event of an accident if a person is wearing seat belts. In this case, with a sharp jolt, the belts are tightened and do not allow the person to fall forward with all their strength. This means that the impact on the pillow itself is softened. The driver and passengers must be at least 25 centimeters from the pillow. In this case, they have every chance to escape from injuries, including from hitting the pillow itself.
Step 4
If you do not know where the safety equipment is in your car, look for the Airbag lettering on the interior elements. This proprietary name designates all places where safety features are built in. The driver's airbag is in the steering wheel and the lettering is clearly visible. If there is no passenger cushion, then a recess is made in the upper part of the torpedo for an open glove box. Just below the steering wheel and glove compartment, there may be pillows that protect the knees of the driver and passenger. Side airbags can be located on the left (driver's) or right (passenger) side of the seat. In the body pillar, there may be so-called safety curtains, which, upon impact, open to the entire length of the glass.
