The first attempts to create an airbag date back to 1950. However, it was only in 1968 that the remarkable inventor Alain Breed presented the world with a ready-to-use model. In the modern world, in many countries of the world, it is legally prohibited to drive a car without airbags.
Necessary
- - magnifying glass;
- - paper clip.
Instructions
Step 1
When purchasing a car from the secondary market, pay attention to the presence of airbags. The repair of these pillows is very expensive, because often half of the car has to be disassembled to get to the place of their attachment.
Step 2
Arm yourself with a magnifying glass and start by visually inspecting the covers. This will help determine whether there has been an emergency deployment of the pillows, and will also become an indirect confirmation of the condition of the machine as a whole. If there are cracks, chips, dents or other evidence of impacts on the surface, then the pillow has already been changed or repaired. This means that there was an accident, the traces of which the seller is trying to hide.
Step 3
Check your electrician. Burned-out contacts, tangled wires - all these are signs that no one is monitoring the condition of the pillows. In this case, even if the pillows are in place, there is no certainty that in an accident they will work as it should.
Step 4
Pay attention to a separate generator responsible for ensuring proper operation of the squibs. The generator casing should also be inspected. Make sure that the geometry of the products is preserved and there are no chips or damage anywhere.
Step 5
Find the common diagnostic connector. Among other settings, this connector will help determine if airbags are installed in principle. As practice shows, in the automotive market they resort to any tricks in order to sell a car as expensive as possible. Among other things, they correct defects that inevitably appear after the pillows are deployed.
Step 6
In the absence of a common diagnostic connector, use an ordinary paper clip and find the contact sensors of the pillows themselves. They can be located under the steering column, next to the gas pedal.
Step 7
Start the car and use a paper clip to short-circuit the contacts. The lights on the dashboard should blink. The Pillow Man emblem should flash at approximately once per second intervals.
