By the beginning of the 60s, the world automotive design made another leap, and the 13th "Seagull" no longer looked modern and impressive. And then the Gorky Automobile Plant began to develop a new, luxurious and unique model of the executive class - GAZ-14 "Chaika".

The development of this unique project took about ten years, with the constant creation of intermediate models, their testing and running-in, due to which the appearance, chassis, engine location, wheelbase were changed.

The result exceeded expectations - not too different technically from the 13th predecessor, a completely unique executive class sedan with an exclusive design, incredible comfort for that time and an original design with extensive use of servos rolled off the assembly line.

The most sophisticated ventilation system that provides an individual microclimate for the front and rear seats, a stereo receiver, athermal greenish glass with UV protection, serious sound insulation of the spacious interior. The car used 17 electric motors! They also attached great importance to the security system - the original design of belts, power belts in the doors, soft interior upholstery, rear foglights and many other elements.

Thanks to original design solutions, car maintenance has become much easier. In particular, many components no longer required constant adjustment and lubrication.

The history of the 14th "Seagull"

The first dark cherry-colored car was assembled by hand in 1976 and presented to L. I. Brezhnev. And in 1977 the car went into production. Unfortunately, only about 1200 cars were produced, and in 1989, production was banned by M. Gorbachev, as part of a plan to “fight against privileges”.
