Most Russian car enthusiasts own cars with a manual gearbox (manual transmission). Most driving schools teach how to drive on such vehicles. Therefore, the problem arises of how to learn how to drive a car with a manual transmission.

Instructions

Step 1

The first step is to deal with the box system. There are usually 5 steps in a mechanical box, which are numbered. Gear shifting occurs when the clutch pedal is depressed. Therefore, first you need to learn how to switch gears correctly and on time. Without starting the car, you need to get behind the wheel and for one hour methodically change gears according to the following scheme: "clutch - gear - clutch - next gear" and so on until the last stage. Keep in mind that you must keep the clutch pedal depressed while changing gears, otherwise you will not be able to switch.

Step 2

The next step is to learn to understand when to change gear while driving. The signal for switching is the engine speed. Either by sound or by the tachometer, it is necessary to monitor the engine speed. Experienced drivers determine the moment of shifting from lower to upper gear by sound only. The smaller the engine displacement, the faster the switching point comes. In the event that the speed needs to be reduced, then at the right time, when the revolutions are at the bottom of the tachometer, it is necessary to switch the box to a lower gear. Otherwise, the gearbox will have increased wear.

Step 3

Once a novice driver understands the basics of gear shifting, he needs to bring the gear shifting process to automatic. For this, the best time is the weekend, when the roads are freer and while driving it is possible to both slow down and accelerate using a manual gearbox. Traffic jams can also be useful for this, when the driver needs to quickly work with the shifting of the lowest gears.
