Snowmobiles "Buran" have been produced by the domestic industry for more than one decade. Simple and reliable enough, they nevertheless require periodic maintenance and repair. One of the tasks in this case may be the removal of the variator.

It is necessary

  • - spanners;
  • - crank;
  • - Litol-24 or CIATIM-201 grease.

Instructions

Step 1

The variator is a stepless automatic V-belt transmission that allows smooth adjustment of the tractive effort transmitted by the engine. The design of the variator is such that it automatically adjusts to the driving conditions, choosing the most optimal gear. This allows the engine to operate under the most favorable conditions under varying loads and the snowmobile at top speed.

Step 2

Since "Burana" have been produced for a long time, they use different types of variators. One of the most widespread and well-proven is the Safari variator, which is installed on most of the Burans.

Step 3

To remove the "Safari" variator, first unscrew its cover, it is fastened with six bolts. While unscrewing the last two bolts, hold the cover so that the spring underneath does not "shoot". Then remove the spring, find a hole in the shaft for the wrench. If necessary, slightly press in the movable disk of the variator so that the hole in the shaft is visible.

Step 4

Lock the flywheel end of the crankshaft by inserting a suitable metal object under the gear teeth. Insert the knob into the hole in the shaft and unscrew the screw. The thread is ordinary, right-hand. After unscrewing, you can remove the entire variator.

Step 5

In order for the variator to work reliably and for a long time, it is necessary to monitor its serviceability, to carry out preventive work in a timely manner. In particular, after every 3000 km of run, it is necessary to lubricate the shaft under the split bushing. Use for grease Litol-24 or CIATIM-201. Be careful not to get grease on the tapered surfaces of the discs. Every 6000 km it is necessary to check the condition of the bushings and bushings on the axles of the weights. The wear of the bushings is estimated by the amount of backlash of the weights, it should not exceed 1 mm. The wear of the liners is estimated by the size of the gap between them and the guide ribs of the movable disk, it should not exceed 1.5 mm.
