General Motors, which owns the Chevrolet brand, assembles its vehicles around the world. Brand new Chevrolets come out of assembly lines in the USA and Japan, India and Russia, South Korea and Vietnam.
Chevrolet cars have gained popularity all over the world. The original Chevrolet plant was based in Detroit, Michigan. The Chevrolet brand itself belongs to one of the largest automotive manufacturers in the world - General Motors.
Assembly geography
GM has its subsidiaries in many countries, so the country of assembly depends on the car model. For example, the Chevrolet Eqiunox is assembled in Canada at the CAMI Automotive plant, the Chevrolet Aveo in South Korea, the Chevrolet Malibu and Chevrolet Volt in the United States, and the Chevrolet LUV is assembled in Japan. Cars bearing the Chevrolet nameplate come from assembly lines in Vietnam and Brazil, India and Mexico.
Chevrolet cruze
In our country, the Chevrolet Cruze has won particular popularity among motorists. This fast-moving sedan first entered the market in 2008 and successfully replaced the obsolete Chevrolet Lacetti and Cobalt brands.
The main production facilities for the assembly of the Chevrolet Cruze are concentrated in South Korea. More than 250,000 vehicles leave Korean assembly lines annually. In addition, the Chevrolet Cruze is assembled in Australia, the United States and Russia. Chevrolet Cruze assembled in Russia comes to the market from a plant located near St. Petersburg.
Since 2012, Kazakhstan has also launched its own Chevrolet assembly line. The Kazakhstan Automobile Plant "Asia-Auto" is located in the city of Ust-Kamenogorsk - several Chevrolet models (Cruze, Captiva, Lacettti and Aveo) are assembled here.
For the Russian GM plant located near St. Petersburg, 2014 was not particularly successful. Sales of cars assembled here fell, so the company had to suspend assembly lines. Experts predict that the Russian Chevrolet plant will suspend operations many more times. The reason for this is a slow but steady drop in consumer demand for the Chevrolet Cruze and Opel Astra assembled here. The general subsidence of the Russian automotive market also plays a role - in 2014, sales fell by more than 6%.
However, no one is going to completely stop the Russian Chevrolet assembly line. General Motors has learned from the mistakes of the 2008-2009 crisis and has managed to prepare for the collapse of the Russian market. A certain optimism is also inspired by the fact that in 2014 the market is not falling as fast as it used to be.
