Instructions
Step 1
Before any intervention in the life of the car, you should carefully study the operating instructions written by the manufacturer. It details the tightening torques of all threaded connections. In order to comply with the recommendations, it is advisable to have a special torque wrench. When tightened, it shows the tightening torque, which must correspond to that specified in the instructions.
Step 2
It is necessary to tighten the wheels, as a rule, when replacing a wheel in the event of a puncture, changing tires, or when performing repair work that requires removing a wheel.
Step 3
Regardless of the brand of the car, the installation and tightening of the wheels is carried out according to the general scheme. First of all, you need to slide the wheel onto the hub protrusion. This is the center lug on the disc to which the wheel is attached. In this case, if there are guide pins on the brake disc, they must fall into the corresponding grooves.
Step 4
After aligning the guide pins, tighten the wheel with the wheel bolts. There are from three to six of them, depending on the car model. Twist them as far as possible by hand.
Step 5
Take a wheel wrench, which has a different head size depending on the machine. The key usually comes with the car. Tighten the bolts with it in order, as far as the suspended wheel will allow.
Step 6
Release the jack slightly so that the wheel is firmly in contact with the ground. In this case, the car should not completely rest on the wheel, the jack should support the car. In this position, tighten the bolts. It is best to tighten the bolts crosswise. Tighten the bolts firmly, but do not use additional extensions or key reinforcements. The shoulder of the wheel wrench supplied with the vehicle is designed for optimum tightening torque.
Step 7
After tightening fully, lower the jack and remove it from under the machine. Check again that you have tightened all the bolts. Carry out a test broach. Install the caps, locks, or other accessories that were removed when the wheel was removed.
