To diagnose and repair certain Opel components and assemblies, it is necessary to remove the instrument panel. If you wish, you can do this yourself. In this case, no equipment is required, only a regular tool.
Necessary
- - a set of spanners and open-end wrenches, socket heads;
- - screwdriver and pliers.
Instructions
Step 1
Always start removing the instrument panel by disconnecting the negative battery cable. The engine and ignition must be off. Please note: after disconnecting the battery, the radio settings will be lost irretrievably and will have to be re-entered. Also make sure you have the unlock code for the radio.
Step 2
On Opel Omega vehicles, remove the steering wheel and steering column trim. Then remove the ventilation grilles and their covers. After that, unscrew the fixing screws of the dashboard located on its left and right sides and remove the dashboard. Pull it out carefully, disconnecting the connectors for the display and other wires.
Step 3
On an Opel Astra car, remove the ignition switch housing by unscrewing the mounting screws. Remove the temperature control panel, headlight switch and light switch, steering column switches. Remove the instrument panel trim by unscrewing the mounting screws.
Step 4
Remove the instrument panel frame. Unscrew the fixing screws of the instrument panel. Remove it carefully by pulling it towards you. Disconnect the speedometer drive cable, as well as the wire connectors on the left and right sides of the shield. After that, finally take it out and remove it from the passenger compartment.
Step 5
On older Opel models, remove the floor trim at the front passenger's feet, the steering column trim, the upper and lower trims on the dashboard. From the instrument panel itself, remove the clock or on-board computer (depending on the model). Under the computer / clock, remove the screws that secure the shield. After that, remove the shield itself by disconnecting the wire connectors.
Step 6
Go through the passenger's footwell to the inside of the dashboard and disconnect the control levers. If the cable is additionally secured with a metal clip, release it before removing the cable from the control arm. Label the cables to avoid confusion during installation.
Step 7
Install the instrument panel in the reverse order of removal. If in the process of removal the cables of the drive of the control levers were disconnected, to attach them, move the levers from one extreme position to another. At the end of the assembly, check the operability of all detached assemblies and parts.
