Ground clearance or ground clearance is the distance from the ground to the vehicle body. The larger its value, the easier the car will be able to overcome various obstacles in its path, therefore many motorists are trying to increase the ground clearance.
Instructions
Step 1
Try larger wheels. To do this, purchase discs with an increased radius and suitable tires. Take a close look at the wheel arch, because if you put tires on too large a radius, then the rubber will touch the car body, even with a slight load. Remember that wheel resizing can be done if there is a recommendation from the manufacturer. This method is the simplest in terms of cost and implementation, but its effectiveness is not very high.
Step 2
Upgrade the chassis of your vehicle. Install spacers between the turns of the shock absorber, which will increase the ground clearance. Remember that this operation will reduce the travel of the shock absorber and the suspension will become significantly stiffer, which will affect ride comfort. Do not try to achieve any high results, this method allows you to increase the clearance by only 3-5 cm.
Step 3
Carefully select the spacer material, which is often polyurethane, aluminum and plastic. The first material constantly interacts with the bushings, which leads to its compression and deformation. Aluminum is bad because it causes corrosion. The ideal option is rubber or plastic, which are strong enough and do not deform.
Step 4
Increase the space between the body and the strut mountings. This method eliminates suspension wear, but reduces vehicle handling. Make sure not to overdo it with raising the car, which can lead to a deterioration in its performance.
Step 5
Remember that any increase in ground clearance can cause problems during the inspection of the machine, and the resulting shift in the center of gravity can lead to problems in the braking system.
