Air conditioners of cars manufactured before the mid-90s were filled with R-12 freon. Then it was recognized as dangerous for the ozone layer and gradually automobile air conditioners began to switch to the use of less efficient but safer R-134a.
Necessary
a special set for self-refueling of air conditioners
Instructions
Step 1
Purchase a refueling device from a car dealer. It should consist of a pressurized container with a coolant, a flexible rubber tube and a pressure meter. The counter takes into account the amount of freon charged into the system. Connect the tube to the counter and turn the wheel counterclockwise until it stops before placing the counter in a container with freon. A needle installed inside the tube will pierce the container with freon, and the device will be ready for refueling. Therefore, do not place the meter in the container prematurely
Step 2
Set up and calibrate the meter before use. To do this, turn the wheel so that its position corresponds to the air temperature indicated by the pressure meter.
Step 3
A car air conditioner consists of two parts, one for low pressure and one for high pressure. Refuel from the low pressure side. To accurately distinguish one side from the other, read the instructions for the vehicle. Pay attention to the markings: the high pressure cap is designated with the letter H, the low pressure cap with the letter L. The holes on different sides of the air conditioner are often made different, which makes it impossible to refuel incorrectly.
Step 4
Before removing the low pressure cover on the air conditioner, clean the area around it to keep dirt out of the system. Connect the filler tube to the low pressure port without activating the device (see point 1). Start the car, turn on the air conditioner at full power.
Step 5
Keep an eye on the counter. The pressure on the meter should rise and stabilize smoothly. If the pressure has not risen to the desired value or has not risen at all, then the engine and air conditioning of the car.
Step 6
Connect the filler tube to the A / C compressor. Start the engine again and turn on the air conditioner at full power. Continue to monitor the meter reading. As soon as its readings stabilize, turn the wheel counterclockwise and, by the characteristic sound, make sure that the container with gas is punctured. In this case, freon will begin to flow into the air conditioning compressor, refueling it.
Step 7
When the reading of the pressure meter equals the value of the ambient temperature that was previously set (item 2), the process of filling the air conditioner will end. Remove the filling device and close the cover of the air conditioner.
