There is a lot of talk about the installation of the so-called "kenguryatnik" on the Chevrolet "Niva". Of course, the additional protection allows you to avoid serious damage in small frontal collisions, however, in matters of its installation, some nuances are hidden.
Types of additional protection for Chevrolet Niva
Additional protection for the front of an SUV, called a kangaroo, was first actively used in Australia, where there were very frequent cases of cars hitting wild animals, including a kangaroo. In a high-speed collision, the carcass of the animal can seriously damage both the main lighting and the engine cooling system. The steel grill, taking a blow on itself, will inevitably be deformed, but hundreds of kilometers from civilization, it saves the life of the driver and passengers.
There are several types of kengurin, which differ not only in cost, but also in the method of attachment and purpose. The original "bumper guard" is made of a strong steel pipe and is able to withstand maximum loads in frontal collisions. Decorative protective frames are made of lightweight aluminum alloys. Such kenguryatniki are rarely installed on the Niva, since the car itself has a well-developed design and does not require additional tuning. There is a separate type of kengurin, which is popular among domestic fans of fishing and hunting. This protection is a steel reinforcement mesh secured to a rigid supporting frame.
Advantages of installing "kenguryatnik"
Kengurin for "Niva" of the latter type provides protection from branches and tall grass, thereby preserving the surface of the paint on the bumper and reflector glasses on the headlights. When driving on a snow-covered off-road, the kangurin breaks a track, partially protecting the car from landing on the bottom. It also protects against large stones or other solid objects that are hidden from the driver's eyes in a snowdrift or thick grass. Additional protection will not be damaged from light impacts, but will preserve the integrity of the car's bumper and radiator. This is especially true when the SUV is idle for a long time in public parking lots.
Disadvantages of additional protection
Initially, the kengurin was developed for frame SUVs, which can completely take the blow without significant structural disruption. The main danger of installing the "kenguryatnik" on the "Niva" is the imperfection of the method of its fastening. The protection is attached directly to the side members, therefore, in the event of a strong collision with relief defects or in an accident, the geometry of the body will be almost guaranteed to be violated. Another danger that the kengurin hides is serious injury when hitting a pedestrian. If the bumper and radiator of the car can partially take the blow, then the hard "kenguryatnik" does not leave the pedestrian the slightest chance.
