The glow plug is an additional source of heat for igniting and vaporizing fuel in the combustion chambers of a diesel engine. Basically, it is an electrical heating device. It differs in that it has a heating coil. Like any other device, the glow plug must be properly installed and, if necessary, dismantled.
Necessary
- - keys;
- - sweep;
- - special grease;
- - measuring device.
Instructions
Step 1
The glow plugs, like the injectors, are located under the intake manifold, which must be removed to remove the spark plug. You will need an extension ratchet wrench to complete this procedure.
Step 2
After the intake manifold has been removed, unscrew the nuts securing the spark plugs. The nuts cannot be removed completely as they are built into the cable lug. Then unscrew the glow plugs.
Step 3
Before dismantling the glow plugs, be sure to clean the hole in the prechamber and the spark plug channel of carbon deposits using a reamer of the required diameter. The use of a standard time base is recommended. Before doing this, however, apply grease to the grooves of the reamer being used.
Step 4
The design of the reamer provides for the presence of a special stop: it is this element that prevents damage to the ball pin in the antechamber. Still, it is better not to enter the scan used too deeply.
Step 5
Apply graphite grease to the threads of the spark plug before removing the glow plugs. Dismantle this heating device, if possible, with a well-warmed engine.
Step 6
Removing the glow plugs is preceded by the disconnection of this heating element from the candlestick and the removal of deposits with compressed air.
Step 7
If the glow plug is damaged, replace the entire kit: after removing the heaters, inspect each removed glow plug. Then use a measuring device to check the test voltage and also measure the resistance between the metal case and the terminal of the contact nut.
