Glow plugs are designed to help the fuel mixture reach its operating temperature faster. But often candles fail, and you need to replace them.

Instructions

Step 1

Prepare your work area before replacing. To do this, open the hood and find the attachment belt there, which will cause inconvenience when performing work, so it needs to be slightly loosened. To do this, unscrew the tensioner bolt and remove the belt from the side of the generator pulley. There is a vacuum pump tube next to the generator, which must also be removed.

Step 2

Also disconnect the powertrain lift bracket, if any. Remember that there are tires attached to the glow plugs and must be removed from the connectors. After that, deal directly with the candles. Take the socket in your hands and carefully unscrew them. Remember that this procedure is best done with the engine warm.

Step 3

Be careful not to break the tips of the candles, which are fragile enough. If you see that the candle does not unscrew, even if you apply sufficient effort, then contact the specialists who will carry out this operation using special equipment. After all, if the spark plug breaks down, you will have to remove the intake manifold cover and drill a hole.

Step 4

Carefully clean the spark plug connectors, a thin metal rod will work well for this. After that, try to bait the cleaned or new candle into place. If this does not quite work, then carry out additional cleaning of the threads with the generator mounting bolt. Use WD-40 if necessary.

Step 5

Do the same with the other candles. After replacement, tighten them with a torque wrench to a torque of about 15 N * m. Take care of sealing the area in advance to protect the candles from moisture. To do this, blast the area around the installation points with a jet of compressed air.
