Sooner or later, in the practice of any motorist, the question arises: "How to check glow plugs for performance?" Naturally, the simplest, but at the same time affecting finances, way is to use a special set of tools, the price of which varies from two hundred to three hundred rubles, depending on the place of purchase.
But suppose there is no money in your pocket. Then you can check the glow plugs with improvised means.
Instructions
Step 1
First of all, be sure to disconnect the power wire that goes to the spark plug power bus. This point is also obvious from the side of common sense - accidents have never brought happiness to anyone.
Step 2
Now carefully remove the tire from the glow plugs. Connect the wire directly to the positive (do not mix up!) Battery post. Next, the other end of the wire should be "scratched" along the thread on which the tire is screwed.
Step 3
Notice if sparks are skipping. If so, the candles are fine. In the absence of sparks, we can state the fact: the candle is inoperative and needs urgent replacement.
Step 4
Another quite effective option is to wait until the ambient temperature drops to -15 degrees Celsius and try to start the car.
Step 5
You can also unscrew the candles and check the center electrode. Some qualified specialists in their own way answer the question "how to check glow plugs" in a specific way: since candles are an ordinary heating element, the most banal voltammetric meter will do. If, as they say, "does not ring", then the candle is faulty.
Step 6
If, as a result of all the checks, it turns out that the candles are no longer operational, then they must be replaced with new ones. It is best to carry out installation operations in a car service with the help of highly qualified and experienced craftsmen, at least for the first time. And do not forget to write down the procedure and all the manipulations of the specialist.
