The tachometer is one of the most important instruments in a car. It allows you to constantly monitor the engine speed. However, not every car configuration has a standard tachometer. Therefore, many motorists have a question about how to connect this device to an injection engine.

Necessary

  • - remote tachometer;
  • - new dashboard with built-in tachometer;
  • - set of tools;
  • - soldering iron;
  • - cotton gloves.

Instructions

Step 1

Study the manual for the repair and operation of your vehicle. In it you can find instructions for installing and removing a standard tachometer for an injection model of your car.

Step 2

Find out if there are standard dashboards with a tachometer for your car. If there are any, then the most ideal and simple option is to purchase and install such a board instead of the one that is currently installed in your machine.

Step 3

To install a new dashboard with a built-in tachometer, it is necessary to partially or completely disassemble the torpedo. Each car model has its own characteristics when removing the board. On some machines, it is necessary to disconnect the entire torpedo, while others just need to remove the protective visor above the dashboard and unscrew the screws securing the fasteners.

Step 4

It is necessary to connect a new dashboard according to the diagram shown in the attached instructions. Do not forget to remove the minus terminal from the battery before installation.

Step 5

Purchase and install an external cigarette lighter tachometer. Such a device allows you to measure the number of revolutions by changing the current in the on-board power supply system. A remote tachometer powered by a cigarette lighter is very convenient, as it requires a minimum of effort to install.

Step 6

However, it also has a small minus - measurement error. This is due to the fact that each metal has its own resistance value.

Step 7

Connect the tachometer directly to the cigarette lighter wires if you want to achieve the minimum error. To do this, pull out the cigarette lighter socket from the connector and solder the wires from the tachometer to the wires coming from the car's power system, observing the color match.

Step 8

For the most accurate measurement of engine speed, connect an external tachometer to the ignition coil. Remove the steering column shroud and locate the wiring harness. Among them, separate those wires that go to the coil. There should be four of them in total. Solder one to "plus", and the rest in accordance with the color of the wire itself.

Step 9

Contact the service if you are not confident in your abilities. Install only the tachometer model recommended for use in your vehicle. The use of third-party instruments will, at best, lead to incorrect system performance.
