Diesel generators are designed to provide facilities with electrical energy as an emergency or additional source. Unlike gasoline generators, they are designed for longer run times and are less suited for field use.
Instructions
Step 1
To select a generator based on its power, add up the power readings of all electrical appliances that can be connected to the generator set at the same time. In doing so, take into account the peak power of the consumers, not the nominal one. The power of the generator should be 20-30% more than the resulting sum of powers. This excess is necessary both to ensure load uniformity and to have a reserve for connecting additional consumers in the future.
Step 2
Pay attention to the number of phases of the generator set. The choice between a three-phase, two-phase and single-phase generator depends on the type of electrical appliances to be connected. When connecting consumers directly to the station, it is important that the difference in the power of electrical appliances at different phases does not exceed 20-25%. This significantly affects the installation resource. With a certain connection, a three-phase power plant is capable of delivering a voltage of 220 V.
Step 3
Choose between a synchronous or asynchronous generator. The first type of generators is less accurate in maintaining voltage and is suitable for powering equipment that is insensitive to voltage surges and inductive consumers (pumps, power tools, electric motors). Asynchronous generators can power equipment that are sensitive to voltage surges and active consumers of electricity (light bulbs, computers, electronics).
Step 4
Cooling system (air or liquid). Diesel generators with a liquid-type cooling system have an increased resource and are capable of operating around the clock for a long time. The stop is only required for refueling and maintenance. On the other hand, air-cooled diesel generators have lower cost and weight and dimensions.
Step 5
Depending on the place of operation of the diesel generator, increased noise immunity may be required. The presence of a special soundproof casing is absolutely necessary in rooms and places with requirements for noise levels. Sound-absorbing means by design can be both anti-noise canopies and mufflers for the exhaust system.
Step 6
In addition, depending on the climatic conditions of operation, a special design of the installation may be required, as well as a container that protects the generator from environmental influences. This can be a simple weatherproof container, a shelter or an arctic container that allows the generator to operate in temperatures down to -60 ° C.
Step 7
Depending on the financial capabilities and needs, select the additional equipment of the diesel generator. They can be: the ability to automatically start, a liquid crystal information display, remote control from a computer, high-capacity fuel tanks, overload protection, against fuel leaks.
