Step 1

Open the hood of the car. If the design of the machine includes a decorative cover for the battery, it must be removed. Pry the retainer with a screwdriver and remove it. Pull out the retaining piece and remove the casing cover.

Pry up with a screwdriver and pull out the five cowl latches. After that, it can be easily dismantled.

Step 3

Use the “10” head to unscrew the frame that holds the battery in front. Unhook the hook on the hairpin at the back and remove the frame. Remove the insulator at the positive terminal. Unscrew the terminals of both wires with a key "10". Lift the battery handle and pull it out of the slot. Its installation is carried out in the reverse order.

Step 4

Check the condition of the removed battery at home or in the garage. First, measure the voltage across it with a multimeter. As you know, a voltage of 12 volts is considered optimal for a serviceable and charged one.

Step 5

Determine visually the electrolyte level in the battery. Unscrew all the plugs covering its cells and look inside. If the battery is in good condition, the electrolyte completely covers the upper edges of the plates. If the electrolyte level drops, fill the cells with distilled water to the required level. After that, you need to charge the battery.

Step 6

Charge the battery for ten to twelve hours, setting the current on the charger to one tenth of the battery capacity.

Step 7

Measure the electrolyte density of a charged battery with a hydrometer (in each cell). A density of 1.25-1.27 g / cm3 is considered normal. The battery will be ineffective if the density of the electrolyte in at least one of the cells is less than normal.

Step 8

Finally, measure the voltage after charging the battery with a multimeter or load plug. When measuring the voltage with a load plug in a properly charged battery, it should not fall below twelve volts for five seconds.
