A gearbox is a technical device that serves to change the speed of a rotary movement during transmission. Gearboxes became widespread after the invention of gasoline and diesel engines. This happened because only gearboxes can reduce the speed of revolutions, while increasing the torque, and increase the effort. In some cases, it is necessary to increase the rotational speed, while reducing the torque. The choice of the gear unit plays an important role here.

Instructions

Step 1

Determine how many revolutions per minute (n2) are needed to output the drive. Based on the known motor power (P1), the required torque (M2) at the gearbox shaft output must be calculated. Do it using the formula: M2 = (9550 * P1 * Rd) / n2, where Rd - take from the reference book, this is a dynamic coefficient.

Step 2

Based on the known speed of rotation of the electric motor (n1), which is also called the number of revolutions at the input, calculate the gear ratio: i = n1 / n2.

Step 3

Then select the type of gearbox directly based on the specifications and characteristics of your vehicle. Worm gearboxes are the simplest and most compact. They are characterized by high temperature resistance, a large number of mounting methods and are among the most used actuators.

Step 4

Coaxial-cylindrical geared motors allow achieving large gear ratios. They have increased resistance to shaft loads. Helical bevel geared motors are mainly used where frequent starts and heavy loads on the output shaft are required.

Step 5

Determine the suitable gear unit model from the manufacturer's tables. Consider all known parameters: torque, power, input and output revolutions. Make sure the dimensions of the actuator fit you so you can mount them.
