The lambda probe is one of the most important sensors in the car engine power supply system. According to its readings, the oxygen content in the exhaust gases is determined. In most cases, the replacement of the oxygen sensor can be carried out by the car owner himself.
Necessary
- - new sensor;
- - WD-40 or "liquid key";
- - box wrench;
- - scrap;
- - towing cord;
- - rags.
Instructions
Step 1
Despite the fact that the process of removing the oxygen concentration sensor itself is quite simple and, at first glance, should not cause any difficulties, in practice motorists have many problems. The main difficulty is due to the fact that during the operation of the car, the lambda probe "sticks" tightly. As a result, it is not possible to dismantle it.
Step 2
Some "garage craftsmen" propose to solve this problem with rather "tough" methods - for example, remove the collector or simply knock on the key with a hammer. However, using a sledgehammer can destroy the block head or manifold. How to be in such a situation?
Step 3
Stop the engine and let the vehicle cool down. Make sure you can safely grip the exhaust manifold. Spray WD-40 or liquid wrench liberally on the sensor installation site. Wrap the lambda probe tightly with a rag so that it fits as tightly as possible to the manifold. Saturate the rags with the liquid key and leave for 8-10 hours. Repeat the procedure 1-3 more times with an interval of one and a half hours.
Step 4
Disconnect the oxygen sensor connector or remove the negative terminal of the battery. Remove the rags. Disconnect the sensor and remove the hose connecting the injection unit and the air filter.
Step 5
Remove the plastic cap of the strut support bearing. Take a 22 mm spanner wrench, pass the oxygen sensor wire into it and carefully put it on the lambda probe. Install the key so that its handle is horizontal and points to the right.
Step 6
Take a towing lanyard, make a loop and attach it to the handle of the spanner wrench. Insert a crowbar into the loop so that one of its ends abuts against the strut bearing cup. Slowly lift the other end of the crowbar upward while sliding the sensor. Flip the key. Repeat the operation until the key starts to turn by hand.
Step 7
Unscrew the old oxygen sensor and gently wipe the manifold threads with a rag. Install a new lambda probe by tightening it firmly. Reassemble in reverse order.
