Lambda probe - oxygen sensor is an element of the power supply system for injection vehicles. The purpose of this device is that it shows the coefficient of excessive consumption of air in the air-fuel mixture. Rejection of the lambda probe or interruptions in its operation can occur when the electrical connection circuits are separated, short circuited, clogged with gasoline combustion products, thermal overloads and mechanical breakdowns, for example, when driving off-road.

Instructions

Step 1

Diagnose the problem, make sure that the lambda probe has become unusable. If the lambda probe is broken, the CO content in the exhaust increases from 0, 1-0, 3% to 3-7%. Other symptoms of a broken oxygen sensor are deterioration in acceleration dynamics, variable idle speed, and increased fuel consumption.

Step 2

In most cases, the lambda probe stops working due to carbon deposits that accumulate on the sensitive element under the protective cap. You can try to remove plaque to restore the sensor's performance. The sensor is washed in phosphoric acid for 10-20 minutes. It corrodes dirt, but does not destroy electrodes and metals. After rinsing, the sensor must be rinsed and dried. The threads must be lubricated with assembly paste. If washing does not help, the lambda probe must be replaced.

Step 3

Remove the battery terminal. Find the lambda probe, cut the connector so that the wire that goes from the connector is about twenty centimeters. Having unscrewed the old probe, it is necessary to put a new sensor in its place, having previously stripped the wires. Installation must be extremely accurate, care must be taken not to damage the wires coming from the lambda probe. After stripping the wiring on the connector, using the wires included in the kit, you need to make the connection. After connection, the wires must be insulated. By connecting the connector of the finished lambda probe, you can put on the battery terminals.

Step 4

After changing the lambda probe, take precautions that will help to increase its service life. In particular, the service life of this sensor is greatly reduced by poor-quality oil-removable rings, the penetration of antifreeze into the cylinders and exhaust pipes, and a concentrated fuel-air mixture.

Step 5

Change the lambda probe as required by the operating rules. For unheated - every 50 - 80 thousand kilometers, for heated - every 100 thousand kilometers, for planar - every 160 thousand. Timely replacement of the sensor will save up to 15% of fuel, reduce exhaust toxicity, and help maintain the dynamic characteristics of the engine.
