Some motorists sometimes need to determine the rotational speed of the engine shafts in different modes of its operation or electric motor shafts with different loads. For each specific case, there is a way to determine this parameter.
Necessary
- - electronic tachometer;
- - electromechanical tachometer;
- - hour tachometer.
Instructions
Step 1
Determine the rotational speed of the shafts of the internal combustion engine. To do this, using an electromechanical tachometer, connect its sensor to the crankshaft mechanism and connect a 12 volt power source to the tachometer.
Step 2
Switch on the ignition. Change the frequency of rotation of the shafts until the desired modes are reached, and read its value from the sensor of the electromechanical tachometer. This method allows you to determine the approximate frequency of the crankshaft, since the error due to the imperfect design of the tachometer is quite high.
Step 3
Try to find a more accurate crankshaft speed. To do this, connect the signal input of the electronic tachometer to one of the outputs of the ignition coil and supply 12 volts to it.
Step 4
Start the engine with the ignition on. Change the frequency of rotation of the shafts within the required limits, follow its indications on the display of the electronic tachometer, and in this case you will get more accurate results.
Step 5
Find out the speed of the shafts of the electric motor. To do this, read this value on the plate that can be found on the motor housing. In the absence of a plate or an overwritten inscription, turn on the electric motor.
Step 6
Bring the mechanical clock tachometer to the shaft axis and touch it. Press the "Start" button on the tachometer body without lifting it off the motor axis. When the arrow stops moving, read opposite it the data of the rotational speed of the shafts of the electric motor.
Step 7
Press the Reset key to return the tachometer to its previous state. Repeat measurement if necessary. This method is characterized by an average level of accuracy due to the limitation of the mechanical design of the dial watch mechanical tachometer.
