Leggings are a special type of gloves that are used in welding and assembly work. They are the best hand protectors against sparks and metal spatter from the welding machine. Despite the apparent simplicity of these attributes of the welder, their choice should be taken very seriously, because production safety directly depends on this.
Instructions
Step 1
When choosing leggings for working with a welding machine, keep in mind that the main criterion will be high-quality protection of hands from the scalding effects of ultraviolet radiation, hot sparks and splashes of molten metal. Therefore, gloves made of non-flammable materials are not suitable for this purpose. The most effective hand protection during the welding process is provided by gaiters made of split leather. Split is a specially crafted pork or cow leather. Gloves made from this material are reliable and durable. Pay special attention to the most unprotected place of such leggings - the seams. They should be dense and made with heat-resistant yarns.
Step 2
For outdoor welding in winter, choose leggings made with insulation. As the latter, gloves on a fur basis with the use of an insulating woven material are widely used. In addition to protecting against the negative effects of the welding machine, they save hands from the cold. When welding in the summer or in warm rooms, use gaiters without additional inserts.
Step 3
When performing certain types of welding work that require high precision, choose the five-fingered gaiters option. They provide freedom of movement for the welder's fingers and allow even jewelry work. There are also three-toed and one-toed leggings. The latter are used only for electrode welding.
Step 4
Choosing leggings for work that do not involve direct contact, limit yourself to the choice of gloves made of tarpaulin. They are less resistant to high temperatures, but they perfectly protect hands from the traumatic effects of sharp metal products. Such leggings are much cheaper than their split counterparts.
