Step 1

Cleaning can be carried out both on the removed engine and installed under the hood. The first step is to disconnect the head from the cylinder block. After that, pick up a plastic scraper or wire brush, with the help of which carefully remove all carbon deposits that have accumulated in the combustion chambers of the cylinders. Remember to clean the rods and guide bushings. After removing the top layer, be sure to rinse the combustion chambers and cylinders with gasoline, kerosene or alcohol.

Step 2

If the engine is in the car, thoroughly clean the top of the pistons and cylinders. Be extremely careful when performing this procedure, because if there are carbon residues in the cylinders, you risk scratching the walls and getting serious damage to the pistons. To prevent this situation, before starting work, turn the crankshaft so that the two pistons stop at top dead center. Carefully cover the remaining two cylinders with a clean cloth. Remember to insulate the cooling system to prevent dirt particles from getting inside. To do this, cover the cooling channels with adhesive tape.

Step 3

Fill the space between the pistons and cylinder walls with grease. Then carefully clean the top of the pistons with a plastic scraper, taking care not to scratch the aluminum alloy. Next, carefully remove the remaining grease along with carbon deposits.

Step 4

Take preventive measures that are aimed at reducing the formation of carbon deposits. To do this, polish the top of the piston. Then remove the cloth that covered the two cylinders and rotate the crankshaft so that the pistons at the bottom are in the dead zone. Clean them in the same way as with the other two cylinders. Don't forget to polish these pistons too.
