If you want to expand your horizons in the field of engine repair, as well as if you have money, a warm garage and the necessary tools, the motorist will be able to get a piston one on his own.
Don't forget the butter
First, the car owner needs to drain all oil from the engine. Then unscrew the fasteners of the pillows and attach the "slings" to the pallet. Next, carefully pull out the motor and put it in a prepared place.
Step-by-step work plan
- We start disassembly from the block head, unscrew it, remove the gasket, thoroughly and carefully clean their surfaces. With a triangular file (scraper) we remove the burnt from the top of the cylinders. Without doing this, it is difficult to determine the degree of wear, and it will also be impossible to remove the piston intact, since carbon deposits will not allow the piston to come out.
- After we have cleared the edges of the cinders, we check for a noticeable step: we draw our finger from the bottom up along the cylinder to the upper edge. You need to know which power unit we are working with (either it is after a major overhaul, or it has never been disassembled). Then we make accurate measurements of the cylinders with a caliper (caliper).
- We scroll the crankshaft, carefully look at the cylinder mirror for the presence of vertical deep grooves. The development of an ellipse and a cone should not exceed 0.03 millimeters. It is impossible to determine it visually, which is why an internal meter is needed for accuracy.
- So now we know the diameter of the cylinders - no boring is required. This means that the cost of repairs will be minimal. It is not worth buying rings right away, until you have examined all the insides of the block. You need to pull out the pistons and carefully consider, you may also have to buy them. In order to remove the pistons with connecting rods, you need to remove the pallet itself.
- To do this, you need to raise the engine again, having previously re-hooked the straps, which will allow us to unscrew the bolts, but it is not worth removing the removed mechanism far. The remaining oil must be drained and the bottom of the sump inspected: there may be one or two chain retarders, ring fragments and much more.
- It is required to look at the engine repair and service book. After the sump is clean, check the oil film clearance on the retarder and bottom. If it sparks, then there is metal dust there, and this is a sure sign that the earbuds are worn out.
- Check all earbuds, most likely they need to be replaced. In this case, after pulling out the piston with the connecting rod, see if there is a cylinder mark on the connecting rod. If not, it can mean one thing - this unit is after a major overhaul and most likely there are "non-native" connecting rods. In such a situation, it is worth adding a mark on them and the covers so that at the next overhaul you know which liners have changed.
