Flushing of the power steering (GUR) is carried out during the planned replacement of the fluid in it. The power steering is washed out if the liquid drained from it is too dirty and contains a large amount of foreign impurities. It is also replaced when the drained liquid is cloudy.

power steering fluid, screwdriver, clean container

Instructions

Step 1

Park the car on a level surface and apply the handbrake. Pump out fluid from the power steering. To do this, locate the fluid reservoir under the hood. Loosen the clamp of the return hose and disconnect it by placing it in a clean container with a capacity of about 1 liter. Close the hole in the tank. Install the container in the engine compartment, securing it away from moving parts and heat sources. Turn on the engine and watch how the fluid is pumped out of the power steering system. In order to squeeze it out as much as possible, turn the steering wheel twice all the way to the left and right. As soon as the fluid stops flowing, stop the engine immediately. Reattach the return pipe.

Step 2

Examine carefully the drained liquid: if it is clean, then flushing is not required, but if it is cloudy and contaminated, then the power steering must be flushed. In any case, refill the power steering with fluid. To do this, fill the reservoir through the lid up to the upper mark. Then, with the engine off, slowly turn the steering wheel from lock to lock. If the fluid level drops, top up again and repeat this procedure until the fluid level stops dropping.

Step 3

Start the engine and turn the steering wheel again. Repeat the procedure until the fluid level stops decreasing even with the motor turned on. If there is extraneous noise in the system, the air is not completely evacuated from it. To check this, turn the steering wheel to the forward position with the engine running. After shutdown, the liquid should rise in the tank. In this case, continue pumping.

Step 4

To flush the power steering, repeat this procedure two more times, ensuring that the drained liquid after pumping has a normal color and consistency. Along the way, check the pipes and connections for leaks. At the end of the work, add fluid to the upper mark of the reservoir.
